Chargers Finch named CCAA Torchbearer

Camosun Chargers men’s basketball all-star, David Finch (Argyle Secondary/North Vancouver, B.C.) has been selected as a 2025 recipient of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Torchbearer Scholarship presented by Hudl.

This national award recognizes student-athletes across the country who demonstrate outstanding civic leadership and service to their communities.

A third-year student in the Sport Management program, Finch has shown that impact goes far beyond the court. His dedication to volunteerism spans multiple community initiatives, most notably his roles with MOVE Adapted Fitness and the KidStart Mentorship Program.

“I am beyond honoured to be a recipient of the CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship,” said David. “To be recognized for my community endeavours is not something I ever expected nor needed, but I am truly grateful to Hudl and the CCAA, and I will use this recognition to continue helping people when and where I can.”

At MOVE, Finch supports individuals living with neurological disabilities, including those affected by multiple sclerosis, brain injuries, and Parkinson’s disease. His responsibilities include assisting clients on and off specialized fitness equipment, facilitating mobility exercises, and fostering an environment that promotes confidence and independence. One of his most meaningful experiences has been working with a client who now attends his home basketball games—a powerful testament to the mutual inspiration between athlete and community.

In the KidStart Mentorship Program, Finch serves as a one-on-one mentor for a local youth considered at-risk. He provides companionship, encouragement, and guidance, building a relationship that, while challenging at times, has become a valuable source of connection and growth for both. Finch continues to advocate for the value of education and physical activity through this mentorship, demonstrating the long-term commitment that defines his approach.

David has made a meaningful impact in the Victoria community through his compassionate volunteer work with individuals living with neurological disabilities and his mentorship of at-risk youth. Finch balances academics, athletics, and community leadership with humility and dedication, embodying the true spirit of the CCAA Torchbearer.

The CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship, presented by Hudl, awards six student-athletes annually with a $1,000 scholarship, recognizing their off-the-field leadership and civic engagement. Launched in 2021, the initiative reflects the evolving partnership between Hudl and the CCAA, highlighting the value of sport as a force for social good.

Hudl, the Official Video Analysis and Exchange Partner of the CCAA, has been a longtime supporter of collegiate sport in Canada. Its collaboration with the Torchbearer Scholarship reflects its commitment to investing in student-athletes who lead by example, on and off the field of play.
